Johnson opens Meritas

After 10 years working in Japan, North Africa and the UK, Paul Johnson has opened Meritas International, a business consulting firm, in Prague.

Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Johnson worked in the pharmaceuticals and health care industries with GlaxoSmithKline and WoltersKluwer Health. The last position he held was president for Japan and Asia Pacific WoltersKluwer Health, based in Tokyo.

Johnson has a master's degree in medical biochemistry from Surrey University and an MBA from Warwick Business School, both in the UK. He is also a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, a member of the Institute of Directors and a member of the British Chamber of Commerce in Prague. Johnson, a permanent Czech resident, and his Czech wife have two sons and a daughter.

IT firm Logos announced the appointment of a new business director. Jan Semrád joined Logos from telecommunications giant Cesky´ Telecom, where he also served as business director.

Semrád studied information technology at the University of Economics in Prague. During his studies, Semrád launched his own IT consultancy firm and contributed to several IT publications. After his studies, Semrád held several managerial positions in Ericsson's mobile-phone division. Following Ericsson's merger with Sony, Semrád became the new firm's country manager for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Among recent changes in Czech Railways' top management, Rodan Senekl was appointed to fill the newly established position of deputy general manager responsible for cargo transportation. Senekl first joined Czech Railways in 1983 and remained there until 1992, at which point he moved on to positions with an IT company and several transportation firms before agreeing to rejoin Czech Railways this spring.

The biggest international law firm on the Czech market, Weinhold Legal, has named two new partners: Milan Polák and Thilo Hoffmann. Polák has been working at Weinhold Legal since 1998 and focuses on corporate law and legal advisory matters related to international lawsuits and arbitration.

Hoffmann will manage the law firm's services for German clients. Before joining Weinhold Legal, Hoffmann was a legal adviser in the European Parliament.

Milan Mottl has been appointed field partner manager at software firm Computer Associates. In his new position, Mottl will be responsible for managing the channel of partners in the segment of small and midsize businesses. Mottl has been working in the IT market since 2001.
